Lindsay Lawson's practice is a supple amalgamation of an array of media. She has developed a type of situational process involving contracts, correspondence and interpersonal exchange that the she calls Arrangements. "The Real Smiling Rock Last Updated 11-06-2015" is the latest version of a living document recording an Arrangement between the artist, and eBay seller named guitarpickman.com, and the digital presence of a rock he is selling on eBay.
Born in the United States and living in Berlin, Lindsay Lawson received her BFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University, her MFA in New Genres from UCLA, and attended the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. Her work spans media such as film, video, installation, photography, sculpture, performance, text, and particular types of contractual legal agreements, she named "Arrangements". Her practice often deals with issues of presence and objecthood in virtual and physical spaces. Numerous recent projects investigate states of infatuation with virtual personas and both virtual and physical objects. She recently presented a large-scale performance titled Choreography for Crane as part of the 9th Berlin Biennale. Her work has been exhibited at venues such as 8-11, Toronto; Tenerife Center for the Arts, Tenerife; Entre, Bergen; Galerie Lisa Kandlhofer, Vienna; Gillmeier Rech, Berlin; Herald St., London; Frutta Gallery, Rome; LAXART, Los Angeles; Yossi Milo Gallery, New York; 1646, The Hague; Galerie Jeanroch Dard, Brussels; Galerie Tobias Naehring, Leipzig; and Justina M.
